Is it bad to hate pop culture?

I find myself absolutely disgusted with the celebrity obsession in this culture, and the sensationalism of every stupid fad and trend. (I will say, I'm happy the pants hanging off of ones butt fad is finally dying out. Sadly it's being replaced with tight pants.) Why do people obsess over this frivolous nonsense?
