Cousin and his wife are angry at us?
So, I bought a $1000 purse last weekend. My husband and I live pretty damn frugally for the most part, we save a good majority of our incomes, have no debt (in exchange for having few luxuries), and we have a decent amount of money in our account we never spend. My husband had no problem with me buying the purse, we had the money, and if i want to buy a completely frivolous purse with my own money, I damn well will. My cousin and his wife have not been so wise with their money and life choices, so their drowning in debt. Anyways, I had the new purse with me when we went over for dinner at their house last night, and I didn't really think anything of it. However, as luck would have it, my cousins wife had seen the same purse online, along with the price. They started trying to guilt us about how we can "waste" money like that, when their having trouble keeping food on the table. I reminded them they earn 2x as much as my husband and I do, live in a $500,000 house, have 2 luxury cars, while we live in a 500sq foot apartment and share the same car I've had since high school (which wasn't new in the first place, but still runs great). That REALLY made them mad (and perhaps I should've bit my tongue, but they made such a huge deal out of nothing). I don't want my cousin and his family to be mad at us, but I also don't want them guilt-tripping us because we choose a different lifestyle than them. What should I do?
