Are my lilacs going to die?

i just planted seven lilacs all near eachother. one of the seven holes i dug actually has like 3 little lilac branches together because all 3 of them were cut bad lost alot of the roots. and they just look like there only being held by the dirt. are they dying? do lilacs do this? this is my first summer getting into gardening and landscaping by the way
