Intelligent ladies, should I buy her the gift or not?

Me and my girlfriend have an occaision to celebrate next week. She is recently having trouble with money and I want to help her out, but she feels guilty taking it. I am buying her a gift for this occasion, and she might expect it, though we are going to do other stuff as well not just exchange. Should I opt to help her out and not get this pricey gift? It is a frivolous gift, when I know she needs cash to live her every day life.
